Meet our Coaches

Josh Westberg

Head coach

I wasn’t always in shape or fit. In fact, quite the opposite. A car accident left me with a compressed vertebrae when I was 19 years old, and was told I’d have back pain for the rest of my life. I didn’t agree. Fast forward, after a few years of bodybuilding I was introduced to Crossfit in 2008.  I was hooked almost immediately! Crossfit was challenging, rewarding, and diverse enough to keep me coming back for more. It taught me how to be confident. It showed me how to face adversity. It gave me a purpose. After some serious thought, I decided to forgo my career path in accounting and dive into becoming a coach.  My humble beginnings were out of my garage, convincing friends to come over and try this “crazy” workout. I coached at a couple gyms locally honing my coaching skills and, In 2012, we opened our doors of CFD and the rest is history. I love what I do, and I love the people around me. The community is what makes this place so special. You can’t fake that.

Don Michie

If you see an old, short, gray haired guy wearing a hat around CFD, that’s most likely me.  I’m an IT geek/engineer who has always seemed to enjoy finding new ways of pushing myself physically.  Whether it was playing competitive tennis, swimming/riding/running more miles than I’d care to remember, lifting weights and dieting to be the next Arnold (well…if Arnold was 5’6″) or running adventure series races, physical fitness has always been a part of my life.

A couple of years ago I came to a point where I was seeking something different.  I started training for bodybuilding again largely because I enjoy the rewards that come with the rigor and discipline required.  However, once I started, I found myself not all that enthused.  I was talking to my wife and she said, “Hey I saw this Groupon for something called Crossfit.  I’ll get it and you can try it out. Why don’t I get two and you can go with Heather (my oldest daughter).”    I thought, “Why not? ”  So I “Googled” Crossfit, watched a couple of YouTubes and thought…”I’m a physically fit guy…how hard can it be to do it be to do 5 pullups, 10 sit-ups and 15 Air Squats in a minute.  I just rode 40 miles on a bike yesterday.”  Well…was I wrong.  The first WOD I did was with a PVC pipe and bodyweight.  50 Overhead Squats…got it…yeah well…maybe not so much.  What do you mean…drive my knees out, keep a neutral spine and engage my glutes?  That’s hard. Wait…then I have to do 40 Pull-Ups after the Air Squats?  Butterfly…no I didn’t see a butterfly when I was doing Air Squats.  But…I was light-headed so maybe…  I was hooked from that day.

The CFD community is AMAZING! Countless times I’ve had other coaches and athletes stop what they were doing and help me with a lift or gymnastics movement. They have taken time out of their weekend to encourage, support and motivate me at competitions.  As a Head Coach, Josh is able to draw upon his wealth of knowledge and experience to make the complicated uncomplicated and help each athlete move better.  It really doesn’t get any better than that.

Crossfit is centered on functional movements.  Those common movements we do in normal life.  We push, we pull and we squat every day.  We dead lift a barbell and we pick up a 40 pack of water at Costco. We squat clean a dumbbell during a man maker and we squat down to pick up our child.  Learning to do those common things uncommonly well is called Virtuosity.   That is what is most appealing to me about Crossfit.

Can’t wait to WOD with ya!

Belinda Basca

The first day that CrossFit Determination opened was on July 2, 2012 and I was there at the 6am class, my first CrossFit experience.  I was immediately attracted to the competitive, yet community-filled spirit that CrossFit encompasses.  I’ve always worked out, but CrossFit took it to a whole new level.

For me, one of the best aspects of CrossFit is that my husband, Mike, does it too. We train together and have competed together several times (even with some podium finishes!). Our daughters get tired of our constant CrossFit talk, but I love being a role model to them of what a strong female is.

In the summer of 2015 I got my CrossFit Level 1 certification. As a former teacher, it made sense for me to take what I am passionate about and pay it forward. I love seeing everyone at the box grow and develop their skills, it’s by far the best part of coaching.

Besides CrossFit, I work in the science education publishing industry. Between that and shuttling my girls around before and after school, it can be tough to get those WODs in, but getting a workout while spending time with some of your best friends is a highlight to my day. I hope to see you at CFD and motivate you to be the best you can be!

Erika Braccialini

Growing up, I was always athletic and played team sports through college. Fast forward ten years later, divorce, single parenting, and job stress left me unhappy, unhealthy and unmotivated. I hit my breaking point on a hike with my now husband (Coach Keith). I couldn’t make it 1.5 miles. I decided change was necessary. I found CFD 4 years ago through a friend and the community has changed my life. I found a level of fitness far above anything I ever imagined. I found friends I now consider family. And I have found a passion that fires me up to the core. With newfound confidence and drive, I’ve become the wife and mom I always wanted to be. Our blended family of 4 active boys always has us on our toes and it’s nice to be able to keep up!

I’ve been coaching since April 2016 and I have to say, it ROCKS. Watching people surprise themselves and crush their goals is incredibly rewarding. Mindset, goal setting, and confidence building are important to me and I will work with you to reach your goals.

Professionally, I am trained and have worked as a social worker. I love helping people. Nutrition has become a passion and I run nutrition seminars at CFD and am now running a Nutrition Coaching company, The Purposed Athlete. I love what I do!

I look forward to coaching and working out beside each and every one of you!

Jenny Weaver

Hi! I’m Jenny! I started Crossfit with a groupon at Crossfit Determination over four years ago. From that moment forward I’ve been hooked on the Crossfit community, and my passion for the physical and mental development that occurs week over week. I have competed in a NPC Bikini BodyBuilding show as a Crossfitter as well as regularly compete in local Crossfit comps. I attended the Crossfit level one trainer course in November 2016 as I have always had a strong desire to lead and coach coming from a lifetime of team sports. I feel pride and joy to see individuals work hard, challenge themselves, and ultimately do something they never thought they could. There is no better feeling and no movement, skill, weight is out of reach. Set goals, trust the process and mostly, have fun doing it!

Brooke Orendorff “aka” The Crazy One

In 2010 I was introduced to Crossfit , and instantly I was hooked.   I received my Crossfit Level I certification in 2011, and most recently completed my Crossfit Level II Certification in 2016.  I am a former law enforcement officer, turned stay at home mom with three toddlers under the age of 4. Instead of kicking in doors and serving search warrants I now change dirty diapers and bark orders to three little ones who I am convinced don’t listen to one word I say.  Crossfit has become my outlet and the key to my sanity.  I did Crossfit during all of my pregnancies up until the day of delivery and I am convinced that it helped me to have healthy pregnancies, deliveries and eased with my recovery.

I love coaching and helping people achieve their goals.  So whether you are someone who has never worked out before, a seasoned athlete, or a mom looking to get her body back, I look forward to working with you!
